Ignite's HSC English Exam Skills and Revision workshop will provide students studying the HSC English course (Advanced and Standard) with a practical breakdown of the essential skills needed for both papers of the final exam. Throughout the course of the day, Ignite's most experienced presenters, Jonny and Leila, will take students through a variety of practical strategies for responding and adapting to unseen essay questions and comprehension questions, as well as different types of stimuli for the Craft of Writing.
Essay Adaptation
We will be taking students through the precise techniques and strategies to use when answering unseen essay questions on the day of the exam. With an emphasis on application, students will be given several opportunities to answer new essay questions, simulating the experience of unpacking key terms under exam pressure. After attempting thesis statements and adaptation exercises for different types of essay questions, students will be given the opportunity to receive on-the-spot feedback from our presenters.
Comprehension
Students will be taught the most efficient way to achieve full marks in response to the various types of comprehension questions that could be asked for Section I of the Common Module. They will learn how to quickly identity techniques, how to explain the meaning of those techniques in relation to a given questions, and how to structure a response for a given mark allocation.
Craft of Writing
Students will learn how to respond to different stimuli for an imaginative/persuasive/discursive piece of writing and how to structure a band 6 reflection. We will go over various examples and and give students an opportunity to practice the skill themselves.

In order to provide a COVID-safe environment, temperature checks will be conducted by staff on site and physical distancing will be enforces at the venue (with seats spaced accordingly). Hand sanitiser will also be provided on the day.

MEET THE PRESENTERS
Ignite's workshop presenters have each taught and studied English literature for over 8 years since completing the HSC. Collectively, they have assisted over 3000 students through school engagements and group workshops.

Our Mission
